1. Create your Microsoft PowerBI Dashboard

If you need guidance on creating reports using Microsoft, you can click here for Microsoft's support article on creating a PowerBI report. To use Microsoft Power BI, users must enable service principles in their PowerBI tenant. You aren’t required to create a service principal or adjust any configuration other than enabling the service principal setting from your account. This allows third-party applications, such as ScreenCloud, to connect using secure OpenID Connect (OIDC) protocols.

2.  Connect your Microsoft PowerBI Dashboard with ScreenCloud

We'll walk you through how to set up your Microsoft PowerBI dashboard in your ScreenCloud account. However, if you don't already have the Microsoft Power BI app in your account, please connect with our team to activate Microsoft PowerBI. This app is a premium add-on feature, which is an additional cost to your ScreenCloud subscription. Please get in touch with our team by clicking here and we advise you to review the ScreenCloud Pricing Page here. The app is included with the Pro Plan and the Enterprise Plan. 

2.1. With the Microsoft PowerBI app activated in your account, please log into your ScreenCloud account to add this app to your account by visiting the "Apps" section of your account. Click on All Apps.

2.2. Search for Microsoft PowerBI, then select it and click Get.

2.3. From here, you'll be prompted to sign in to your Microsoft Power BI account. Click Connect a PowerBI account.

2.4. You'll be prompted to name your account connection for your app as you log in. Once this has been provided, go ahead and click Sign into Power BI.

2.5. You will then be redirected to Microsoft’s login window in another tab or popup window. Follow the login and authentication steps to connect your account. Please note, that if your organization uses or would like to set up two-factor authentication for your logins, click here to view Microsoft's support article for setting up two-factor authentication. This is required through Microsoft to log in using this method with ScreenCloud.

If you are already logged into a Microsoft session in your browser as you run this step, this will automatically connect the ScreenCloud Microsoft Power BI app with your Microsoft account.

2.6. With your Microsoft account now connected to the ScreenCloud app, you will have access to all available reports or dashboards in your account, where you can also switch between your available workspaces to find the exact content you need to display. As you are setting up your app, you can browse through and preview all the reports or dashboards.

2.7. If you select a Report, you will notice that there are quite a few settings you can apply as you set up our app.

With Dashboards there are no such options to select, however.

2.8. If you have selected a report, you can:

Select to cycle through all pages in the report and display them for a selected amount of seconds. This can be toggled on or off.

Choose a single page from the report to view

Set the report refresh rate by the hour or minute

2.9. With filtering, you can specify focusing on certain items of your report, or omitting information, and two different filtering options are provided:

You can filter by Table name, Column name, Operator (select between In, NotIn, All), and Value. Click Add once your filter is ready. You can add as many as you need, and they can be removed afterward by clicking the Remove button for that filter.

2.10. Once you have completed your setup and made your selection, you can give your Microsoft PowerBI app a unique name to find it later. Click "Preview" to see how your report will display on your digital screens.

2.11. Click Save & Close when you are ready to set your content to your screens!

2.12. Please note that once you save your Microsoft Power BI app you can no longer change the report or dashboard selection, or see the other information that was available when you first set up the app. For security, the content is locked on the chosen item and settings of the user who created the app.

3. Set your Power BI Dashboard on your screen

You can now start displaying your Microsoft Power BI app on your digital screens by scheduling it using Channels, setting it to a playlist, or independently. You can view ways you can set content on your digital screens using ScreenCloud by clicking here.

How often does the website or dashboard refresh to show the latest data on screen?

Any changes to the report's data will be reflected at the next report refresh interval, which is every 5 minutes. 

Is there any way to embed or share ScreenCloud content on a website or intranet? 

Yes, this can be done using ScreenCloud's Embeddable Channels or Embeddable Playlists feature. This is also a premium add-on feature that you can set up a trial with ScreenCloud for sharing web links or embedding your content on websites or services.  How can I set up two-factor authentication while logging into Microsoft PowerBI?

Two-factor authentication is supported by ScreenCloud, though this requires the feature to be activated in your Microsoft PowerBI account. if your organization uses or would like to set up two-factor authentication for your logins, click here to view Microsoft's support article for setting up two-factor authentication. This is required through Microsoft to log in using this method with ScreenCloud.

I cannot connect my Microsoft Power BI account with the Microsoft Power BI app in ScreenCloud. What could the issue be?

Your issue might be that permissions are not yet approved for the connection. Please see Microsoft Power BI - Permission requirements for help on how you can resolve this.
